The following shelters will open to those seeking shelter from cold temperatures:
Grace Fellowship Church 1304 West Hill Avenue,
Salvation Army on Virginia Avenue,
New Horizons Shelter at 714 Charlton Street.
From Ashley Tye, EMS Director:
We are still utilizing the same plan that we have for the past several years which has, up to this point, met the needs of our local population.
In addition to the shelters at LAMP and Salvation Army, which are open year round, Grace Fellowship Church on West Hill Avenue has continued to offer to shelter to anyone in need whenever the temperatures are expected to drop near or below freezing.
In past years they have provided shelter for as many as 12 people on a given night but so far this year no one has taken them up on their offer of a warm place to ride out the cold. In order to make sure that no one is left out in the cold they have a notice posted on the door with a contact person’s number for anyone that may arrive after they have closed the building.
In accordance with our standard procedures if they were to begin nearing capacity we would be prepared to open up an additional shelter at a different location. The information on available shelters is also disseminated to local public safety so they can assist any individuals they may run across during the performance of their duties on a given night.
NOTICE: Our only computer that was donated about 5 years ago crashed last night. I was given a laptop to use until we receive sufficient donations to purchase a desktop PC.
A geek friend said he could build one for around $1,900. If everyone that uses the site would donate just $25 or more per year, we would be able to continue the research you depend on.
We are a 501(c)3 tax exempt corporation so all donations are tax deductible. We are an all volunteer agency so every penny donated is used to maintain the site. Just go to the home page and click on the secure PayPal “Donate” button.
Please help us serve the poor!

When I was at a homeless workshop earlier this week, a social worker told me that South Georgia Medical Center is hiring ‘hospitalists’ .
When the doctor that you trust puts you in the hospital, the hospitalist doctor will take over and your doctor will not be able to see you. You can't even depend on seeing the same hospitalist on your next visit.
It has been reported that cardiologists (heart doctors) and oncologists (cancer doctors) have been leaving town. That is probably why Tift has sent out a postcard for a meeting introducing their cardiology practice
Tift Regional opens new cardiology clinic in Adel
Tift Regional Health System (TRHS) announced that four cardiologists from Tifton will begin rotating to a new cardiology clinic located at Cook Primary Care in Adel. New patients are now being accepted and appointments can be made by calling 229-896-8500.
"The staff of SSD does not make any recommendations, we simply present alternatives. Many people that have the ability go to hospitals in neighboring cities for their treatment. When we can hire staff, we will be including those major hospitals in our database." BM
In this season of giving, you have an opportunity to support Social Services Database Inc., a website that provides information for free and low-cost services to the needy and references for professionals in South Georgia and beyond.
There is no longer a 2-1-1 information and referral line covering South Central Georgia. In order to fill this need, we must expand our technical requirements and add resources. This is beyond the financial capacity of our volunteers.
We are now a 501c3, so all contributions are tax deductible to this valuable service and all donations are used to maintain the site!
To donate, simply go to http://www.socialservicesdatabase.com/ and click on the PayPal “Donate” button.
Social Services Database Inc. gets thousands of return visitors and if just one quarter of those users donated $25 a year, we could keep the database alive. If you use it, please donate. We will not be able to maintain the site without your assistance.
