From Ashley Tye, EMS Director:
We are still utilizing the same plan that we have for the past several years which has, up to this point, met the needs of our local population.
In addition to the shelters at LAMP and Salvation Army, which are open year round, Grace Fellowship Church on West Hill Avenue has continued to offer to shelter to anyone in need whenever the temperatures are expected to drop near or below freezing.
In past years they have provided shelter for as many as 12 people on a given night but so far this year no one has taken them up on their offer of a warm place to ride out the cold. In order to make sure that no one is left out in the cold they have a notice posted on the door with a contact person’s number for anyone that may arrive after they have closed the building.
In accordance with our standard procedures if they were to begin nearing capacity we would be prepared to open up an additional shelter at a different location. The information on available shelters is also disseminated to local public safety so they can assist any individuals they may run across during the performance of their duties on a given night.
There are quite a few Red Cross Shelters along the projected Cone of Irma.
There are several shelters that are open during Irma.
